Teaching in Mexico

The enthusiasm to learn English is evident when you first arrive in Guadalajara. You get on a bus or enter a shop and everyone wants to try out their English skills. With the US as a neighbour, everyone realises that learning English is a good way to get a better job. Guadalajarans may have the chance to work at one of the city's hotels or even work for one of the big US corporations. Either way English is very important.

The schools in Guadalajara often struggle to get teachers who speak fluent English. The most suitable candidates are often tempted away by higher salaries in the private sector. Volunteers are therefore welcome in local high schools or even help out at the university. The main focus is on getting your students confident in communication. You will find the students want to hear what life is like in your hometown and why you have chosen to come to Mexico.

Our placements are in high schools, junior schools and at Guadalajara University. If you want to go to a smaller town why not think about going to Ciudad Guzman next to the volcanic Mt Colima? You will soon find yourself known as one of the few 'gringos' in town! You don't need to speak Spanish to join this programme although you will find yourself returning with at least some knowledge of the local language.
