Teaching in Romania

Romania was one of the countries where Teaching Abroad started - our first volunteers went out in 1992. Following the revolution of 1989 everyone realised the importance of learning English. The problem is many of the best qualified English teachers are tempted by higher wages outside of the classroom. If you can speak English in Romania, it is the key to a good job.

Based in Brasov, you'll work alongside local English teachers, building the students' confidence to speak English. Local teachers will work on their grammar skills whilst you get them talking. It doesn't matter if it is talking about life in London, politics, your pet dog or your favourite pop group - it all helps them to learn English.

There are usually about 30 students in a class. We work mainly with students aged 12-18 but there is sometimes the chance to work with younger students - please ask if this is your preference. If you are keen on sport, drama or art, volunteers can often link up with these departments in the schools to help out. If you have any specialised skills or interests, let us know!
